I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and the Associate Director of the Center for Professional Enhancement at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez. At the Island level, I currently serve as the co-principal investigator for the Puerto Rico Collaborative in Teacher Preparation, and the director of the SMET Undergraduate Curriculum Virtual Center (which is facilitated by Puerto Rico Alliance for Minority Participation). My latest articles in the May 1999 Journal for Chemical Education and the May 1999 Teaching Children Mathematics show two of my main areas of interest: the preparation of mathematics teachers and the integration of mathematics and science using technology. I use CBL-technology and other "low tech" demonstrations and activities in the mathematics courses I teach.
