Prof. Caldwell is Associate Director of the NISE, and active in two of its research projects in addition to his own Information Resources Coordination Team within NISE. His primary teaching is in the areas of engineering design and human factors, with a specific emphasis on the design, usability, and performance of information and communication technology (ICT) systems. He has written papers on applications of systems engineering tools and methods to improve the design of college classrooms, and the classroom as an engineering feedback control system. His research and teaching on the user-centered design, use, and evaluation of ICT has been applied to the college learning environment, including physical design of networked classrooms, design of CD-ROM texts, and ICT support for student use of library and other reference sources. Prof. Caldwell serves on the campus Library Committee, and has an appointment in the School of Library and Information Studies.
