Member of the External Steering Committee for the workshop. A cognitive developmental psychologist by training, Christine Massey is a research associate and director of the education outreach group at the Institute for Research in Cognitive Science (IRCS). As one of the National Science Foundation's Science and Technology Centers, IRCS has created a variety of research and development projects focused on educational applications that incorporate current research on thinking, learning, and cognitive development. The objective of the Institute's outreach activities is to build a vital, mutual relationship between the cognitive science research community and pre-college education. Professional activities include research on children's learning and conceptual development in science, cognitively based science curriculum development, professional development for educators, and innovative science, math, and technology programs for students from kindergarten through high school.
